Are Nestera chicken coops fox-proof?
We really think so! We've not received a single report of a fox or other large mammal getting into one of our coops. Our ‘chew-resistant’ coops are made from 100% recycled plastic which is really tough, and the ventilation holes are far too small for most predators. The rear door is lockable and the front door is reinforced with a smooth vertical-sliding metal door, which makes it difficult for animals to open.

Are Nestera plastic chicken coops red mite-proof?
Unfortunately, nothing is 100% red mite-proof. However, Nestera chicken coops are intelligently designed to be extremely red mite-resistant, as well as easy to clean! Red mites are tiny, and live in cracks and joints in poultry housing. Unlike wooden chicken coops, ours are made from solid 100% recycled plastic and created to ensure there are very few suitable places for red mite to hide. We recommend sprinkling Diatom powder around the coop when refreshing the bedding, so any mites present are quickly dealt with before they can multiply.

Do Nestera plastic chicken coops get cold in winter and/or hot in the summer?
The plastic we use is 100% recycled which we have found to be an excellent material for chicken coops. In the winter months, the required ventilation means the temperature inside the coop will be similar to the ambient air temperature outside. However, chickens are quite tolerant of the cold as their feathers provide good insulation. During the warmer summer months, our solid, UV-resistant roofs reflects the sun's heat really well, keeping your chickens cool and comfortable.

How many chickens can live in a Nestera chicken coop?
For our standard range of three coops, we offer each in three sizes: Small, Medium and Large. The Small is designed for up to 2 large birds, 3 medium hens or 5 bantams, the Medium for up to 3 large birds, 5 medium size hens or 9 bantams and the Large suits up to 5 large fowls, 6 medium size hens or 15 bantams. The Wagon is suitable for up to 5 large fowls, 6 medium size hens or 15 bantams.

Can I install an automatic door opener on a Nestera plastic chicken coop?
Absolutely! You don't need get up when your chickens do! We offer the Nestera Automatic Door Opener as an optional extra with all our coops. Discreet pre-drilled holes are included on each coop for easy installation.

How long does it take to assemble a Nestera Wagon?

United StatesVery cute coop
It's been about three weeks since we purchased assembled the Nestera Wagon. It is a very cute coop and thus far, our hens seems to enjoy it. Even though we placed it in a covered run, the hens would still have their "sister time" sitting inside the coop for a while every morning after their breakfast. My husband and I assembled the coop, following the instructions that came with the package. We are not handy people and have hardly assembled anything before. It took us a total of probably 6 hours to put the Wagon together. I'd have to say that it is not bad for us. So overall, our experience with the Wagon has been terrific. However, the 4 stars is due to we feel that the parts could have been better labeled. For example, it would have been very helpful to have the plastic bags in which the parts came labeled with numbers/letters corresponding in the written assembly instructions. Secondly, the most difficult portion of the assembly for us was the door plate and everything that needed to go on it. The material was wieldy and we had trouble getting all the washers, nuts, and bolts installed, and because many of the parts look similar, we weren't confident if we used all the right parts where they are supposed to be. Though the promotional video on installation was somewhat helpful, it really did not help with the door plate portion. Overall, we are quite happy with the product thus far. Of all the chicken coops we considered and have used, we feel, in terms of size, material, and aesthetics, the Wagon really comes out on top.

My flock loves their upgrade. They are loving the extra head room and that they can walk under the roosting bars. I increased my flock size to eight, so I felt like they would like a little more room.I will keep the lodge for an infirmary or for any broody hens.
